What to expect at Juventus’ game against Roma
There will be plenty of water to drink in Turin, with the Bianconeri expected to play at the top of the Serie A table with the first leg at the Stadio San Paolo.
In fact, the team will also be celebrating the return of two of its most prominent supporters, with former Juventus player Mauro Icardi and former Inter Milan striker Alessandro Nesta, both from the north-eastern city of Florence, set to join the Biancocelesti in Turino on Thursday night.
The duo will be joined by former Juventus midfielder Francesco Totti and Inter Milan captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as well as former Milan and Juventus striker and Inter defender Alessandro Del Piero.
Alessandro Del Pio, who is one of the key figures behind Juventus’ recent resurgence, will be on hand to take part in a pre-match ceremony.
However, the first-leg clash will be played in the ground that has hosted a famous football match between the two teams in recent times.
“We are celebrating Juventus’ return from Italy and the Italian football club,” Juventus President Giuseppe Marotta told reporters after the match, adding that they are “delighted” to be hosting a match in Turinos capital.
“It’s an honor to be the host of a Juventus-Italy match, the most important one in our history.
It’s also a great honour for the Juventus players and fans, as it’s one of their best matches in history,” he said.”
This is one match we can’t miss.”
The match will be the first time in the club’s history that the Italian side will play in Turinese Stadium since Juventus won the Serie B title in 2008, and the first since the Nerazzurri reached the Champions League quarter-finals in 2009.
Juventus are also looking to secure their first home win of the campaign against the Roma outfit, who won their first four Serie A games of the season and have the tie at the same time with Inter.
The Nerazzuros are currently sitting in fifth place in Serie A with 13 points from 14 games, with a match against the leaders will give them their first opportunity to get into the Champions’ League knockout stages.
The tie will also see Juve head into the competition with the possibility of qualifying for the last 16 of the Europa League.
